PECSYS 3.6

PECSYS 3.6 features a wealth of enhancements, increased interoperability, and support for large population databases. The new version adds Diabetes Prevention and Perinatal to an already extensive list of defined medical categories. PECSYS 3.6 is compatible with all of the latest Microsoft operating systems, including Microsoft® Vista, Microsoft® Server 2003, as well as Microsoft’s latest database management system, including Microsoft® SQL Server® 2005 and Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008.

New Features in PECSYS 3.6

Clinical Interface
1. Patient Run Charts: A secondary X-axis has been added to the patient run charts that present patient data up to twelve years old while preserving the two year resolution of the existing charts.
2. Patient Run Charts: Automatic annotation based on values of other items, such as medications. Added the ability to place Goal lines on run charts.
3. Perinatal: Allow future dates for perinatal items.
4. Pediatric: Automatic BMI percentile calculations (using CDC age/gender norms) for all ages.
5. Provider Interface: Multi-page History and clinical tracker reports in the provider interface.
6. Provider Interface: Patient documents can now use locked Word template files (with Word 2003 or earlier).
7. Provider Interface: Ability to restrict to “Read only” access added to provider interface.
8. Patient Picker: Improved patient picker for large patient populations.
9. Vaccinations and Immunizations: Additional fields for vaccination lot number, manufacturer, and expiration date. Adding these additional fields allows PECSYS to be used as a vaccination registry.
10. Other Notes: Added an option to set user specified other note items to carry forward from previous office encounters (encounter to encounter memory, similar to vitals).
11. Referrals: The reporting and documentation of referrals has been improved by adding fields for appointment date and referral provider.
12. Data Entry: Added option to allow saving encounter documents to file instead of printing them immediately.
13. New Items: Many new items (especially labs and new condition guideline related items, such as for the new asthma guidelines).
14. Related Items: Allow deletion of multiple related items at one time.
15. Clinical Tracker: Ability to reorder clinical tracker items.

Reporting
1. Summary Reports: Summary report drill-downs have been enhanced by allowing drill-down into individual patient data by clicking on any patient listed in the drill down.
< 2. Summary Report Documentation: Added description of all summary report measures.
3. Custom Reports: The PECSYS Multi-line report was a user requested feature. These reports deliver a view of a history of values for any patient listed. This means that you can not only view the latest blood pressure, but also see the blood pressure history for that patient.
4. Custom SQL Query Reports: Ability to add custom SQL query reports as XML files and run them as standard PECSYS spreadsheet reports.

Setup and Configuration
1. Administration: Added support to restore a backup user if it is removed from the database.
2. Client Interface: Allow user to change client color theme and to add a secondary organization logo with optional hyperlink.
3. Microsoft Window NT: Updated the PECS libraries to allow PECS to run on systems using the legacy Windows NT operating system.
4. Microsoft Vista: Runs on Microsoft Vista with the latest Microsoft SQL Server (2005, 2008 and Express versions).

Data Import
1. IO Services: Integration with Aristos IO Services provides a 10 times speed improvement for import and export (add-on to PECSYS 3.6).
2. Importing: Importing data for existing encounters no longer requires a separate encounter record.
3. Importing: Improved import logs and log viewer.

Database
1. Database: Unencrypted database allows database administrators to use best practices for database tuning and database backup.
2. Backups: Descriptions can now be entered at the time of the backup and can be viewed when choosing a backup to restore.
3. Performance: Improved performance for large databases with multiple simultaneous users.

Corrections To Previous Releases

1. Improved performance of report filters and summary reports to prevent reports from pegging CPU utilization at 100%. When running summary reports for large patient populations (> 10,000 patients) the computer hosting the PECS database appeared to lock up or was frozen and prevented others from accessing the database computer.
2. Correct and issue that allowed laboratory results to be imported twice under some situations when the data is re-imported.
3. Items added during an encounter are now visible when switching to custom encounter views.
4. Anonymous export changed to use consistent anonymous names for private demographic items with lookup values.
5. Admin program now updates the client ini file when a database is removed
6. Provider notes can now be saved to the Windows Desktop.
7. Corrected an issue that caused some complex custom reports to lock up. When running certain complex custom reports (that ask sophisticated questions such as patients that have x, y and z but do not have a, b, c) the PECS reports locked up and required stopping the Server and then restarting to recover.
8. Corrected an issue that caused an error when opening up a patient's encounter. Under some situations it was possible that a patient’s encounter could not be viewed in the real-time interface.
9. Corrected issue when adding a new patient from an unknown clinic. When importing large numbers of patients (from a practice management system) if the imported patient's clinic was not recognized the clinic did not set correctly in the initial encounter which caused an error when attempting to view the encounter.
10. Corrected an issue that caused PECS to stop when setting some optional parameters.
11. Corrected an issue that limited printing of encounter documents from the real-time encounter interface.
12. Corrected an issue that affected users with an organization name that is exactly 32 characters.
13. Corrected errors in the context sensitive help, including data dictionary for certain pre-diabetes items.
14. Corrected an error that could occur when renaming a database.
15. Corrected an issue that prevented all related items from being displayed or used.
16. Corrected the BMI calculation errors in the BMI run chart.
